Here's why the Very Hungry Caterpillar never got a stomach ache

Hello!

My daughter graduated from high school this week! This is my SECOND kid to graduate and makes me want to slow life down for just. a. minute. please. Then Kurzgesagt had to post a video like THIS to make me feel even more anxious.

Still, each day I'm getting more used to the idea that my whole purpose in life is to just lay the groundwork for my kid's success. Really excited to see what this girl does, she is amazing.

Here's 5 things I thought you'd appreciate this weekend:

1) From the Missile Mouse archives

From the Archive Unit

I've been busy with Children's Book Pro this week, and haven't sat down to draw anything. So I thought I'd share a few OLD Missile Mouse images I made 15+ years ago.

2) Cool New Robot Board Game

From the Department of Work/Life Balance's Gaming Unit

Robot Quest Arena Kickstarter

This was a first day back for me. Been watching the development art on this for years by artist and creator James McDonald. (Spotlighted him back in June: LINK)

So excited the day has finally come! If you're looking for a fun, aesthetically pleasing game to play with your older kids and/or friends consider Robot Quest Arena: LINK

3) Trilingual Index Typewriter

From the Department of Interestingness, Machines Division

I did not know about index typewriters until I saw this video. Here's a primer on these engineering masterpieces for the uninitiated: LINK

This particular one is special because it operates with a trilingual index of Chinese, Japanese, and English keys.

I just thought it was super cool. Watch the video here: LINK

4) Cardboard Robots!

From the Incredible Projects Division in cooperation with the Office of Robots

Melbourne based cardboard modeler Greg Olijnyk is currently hard at work BLOWING MY MIND. There's something going on down under because not even a few weeks ago I shared the cardboard airships of Daniel Agdag, also in Australia (LINK).

Olijnyk's work is more focused on a future that could be instead of the past that never was vibe I get from Agdag's pieces. He designs articulated robots, bug vehicles, and sophisticated devices complete with LED lights and glass for emphasis.

This one was submitted by friend of the newsletter Matt Connery. Thanks for the tip Matt!

5) On Sticking to your guns

From the Inspirational Thought Unit:

Eric Carle (Who passed away this week, RIP) on a disagreement with his editor over the caterpillar having a stomach ache. Fascinating to see the depth of thought that went into this timeless book, and how you gotta stick to your guns if you truly believe in something:

That's all for this week. Thank you for reading this newsletter and hope you have a great weekend!

-Jake
